This piece depicts a story theme from an old Burmese Folk Tale: There were two brothers, messengers for King Anawrahta. King Anawrahta was the king from 1044-1077, uniting most of today's Myanmar. He is considered the founder of Pagan. These two brothers fall in love with a young girl but she rejects them both. It is said that these two spurned brothers were so angry that sent a tiger to kill her. Thus this image of the tiger holding the girl in his jaws is the girl's fate.
