Antique Thai Silk Brocade: Each End a Separate Weaving
17" x 82" The Cinnabar & Blue end is 26" Long/ The Chevron End in Purples & Gold is 20" Long 100% Thai Silk
This is typical of antiqueThai weavings, putting special pieces togehter with a conntecting plain weave Thai silk piece, wine color here. Both ends are beautiful examples of brocade weaving. If you wished , these pieces can be separated for using each piece on it's own. There are a few fringe pieces missing on one end from use over time. This can be used as a scarf, table runner, wall hanging or my favorite , over a door.
Brocaded Thai silk is a weave that gives the fabric an embossed or raised quality. The fabric is not at all smooth, but is raised in a manner that creates a pattern in and of itself.
Weaving brocaded silk requires the most expertise and patience of all the various silk weaves. A “sarong bolt” ,1 1/2 meters or 4' 11", of quality brocaded Thai silk may take a weaver up to a month to produce.
