Rare Antique Triumphant Garuda Wall Carving
This triumphant garuda has dinner in his talons, ready for a hearty meal. This antique piece is hand-carved in fine detail. It is missing one very small piece on the upper right wing. There is a distinctive unusual handle on the back of this piece. A very rare carving.
Garuda is a legendary bird or bird-like creature in the Hindu, Buddhist & Jain faith He is variously the vehicle mount of the Hindu god Vishnu, a dharma-protector, and Astasena in Buddhism. The Brahminy kite is considered a contemporary representation of Garuda.
Garuda is described as the king of birds and a kite-like figure. Garuda is generally a protector with the power to swiftly go anywhere, ever watchful, and an enemy of the serpent. The Indonesian official coat of arms is centered on the Garuda. The national emblem of Indonesia is called Garuda Pancasila.
