These document holders are hand-carved wood ends with an ancestral image backed with a lizard & a bamboo cylinder in the middle with designs inscribed on them. There is a stick that threads through to hold the pieces in place.

This is a charming artifact but also so useful. This is a ceremonial place to keep safe a variety of important documents like a diploma, marriage license, contract between parties, birth announcements, or whatever is important enough to warrant a special place to reside.
