Kar, Protection, is Buddha in meditation in the single lotus position in Bronze with a soft gold patina done in the Lost Wax Technique allowing for the fine details. Here he is on a cobra pedestal who then raises up to form a hood of protection with seven heads. This naga cobra is called Mucilanda. The seven heads are associated with the seven colors of the rainbow. He is said to have risen up to protect Buddha from the elements. This is an important spiritual object for many Buddhists as it depicts Buddha , the awakened one, being protected by the faithful king of serpents.
